What is In Contempt?
After a few years of political cartooning for various publications I created the In Contempt comic strip in 2001. It ran in alternative weekly publications and as a webcomic until 2009 when I dropped it to focus on another webcomic, Wanderlost. I covered most of the Bush era, some of the Clinton era, and the early stages of the Obama era. Scandal, war, torture, financial collapse, elections, culture wars, racism, imperialism — you name it, I tried to cover it with satire. But not cover it up!
After 2009 I used the In Contempt site to post caricatures, but eventually I neglected it in favor of another webcomic I was working on. One day I found the site overrun by spam, so lacking time to maintain it, I killed the site and let the domain name languish. Now it’s overrun by some pretty gross people. Oh, sad fate for such a noble comic strip. I must redeem you!
What’s Up With This Site?
Now I am using this subdomain of the Mooretoons to archive the strip. This site will include comics I drew before I had launched the title and the many political cartoons I have done since its end. I have never stopped drawing about politics. I doubt I ever will.
Over the next year or so I will be re-posting old cartoons on the anniversary of their original publication. There are a lot of cartoons. This seems like the most fun way to fill the archive. And it gives me time to research the issues each cartoon is about and provide historical context.
